Hero & Team Builds

Hero & Team Builds

A team build is a deliberate combination of heroes, factions, and formation choices designed to achieve a specific goal, such as clearing campaign stages, winning PvP battles, or progressing efficiently. Builds are not fixed recipes; they are frameworks that players adapt based on available heroes and equipment. The guide covers several build categories, each with distinct priorities and trade-offs. No single build is universally best; effectiveness depends on the game mode and opponent.

Each build section includes the heroes involved, faction mix, recommended formation, core strategy, strengths, weaknesses, and equipment notes. Use these as starting points and adjust based on your roster. Beginner teams focus on accessible heroes and simple synergies. Faction teams capitalise on same-faction bonuses. Experimental builds are clearly labelled and should be tested carefully.

Build Evaluation Framework

Hero Roles and Synergy

Effective builds combine heroes whose skills complement each other. Consider whether a hero deals damage, provides control, heals, or buffs allies, and how those roles interact.

  • Damage dealers benefit from heroes that increase attack or reduce enemy defence.
  • Control heroes can lock down key threats, allowing damage dealers to act safely.
  • Healers and buffers extend team survivability in longer battles.

Faction Mix and Bonuses

Faction synergies can provide significant stat bonuses when multiple heroes from the same faction are fielded. However, mixing factions can offer greater flexibility and access to diverse skill sets. Wei, Shu, and Wu each have distinct themes and strengths. A full faction team may gain powerful bonuses but can be countered by specific opponents. Balanced teams often mix two factions to cover weaknesses.

Formation Considerations

The nine-grid formation determines hero positioning, which affects who takes damage and how skills target. Front-line heroes should be durable, while back-line heroes can focus on damage or support.

  • Front row heroes absorb attacks and protect the back row.
  • Back row heroes are safer but may be targeted by certain skills.
  • Formation choice should align with the build's strategy.

Beginner Teams

Starter Balanced Team

Beginner

A balanced team for new players focuses on a mix of one damage dealer, one tank, and one support hero. This composition is forgiving and works in most early game content.

Heroes
One tank, one damage dealer, one support
Faction mix
Flexible; any accessible heroes
Formation
Tank front row, damage and support back row
Core strategy
Survive early waves and outlast opponents
Strengths
Forgiving, easy to build, adaptable
Weaknesses
Lower damage ceiling, slower clears
Equipment notes
Prioritise tank defence and damage dealer attack

Early Progression Team

Beginner

This build prioritises clearing campaign stages quickly by focusing on area damage and fast skill rotations. It sacrifices some survivability for speed.

Heroes
Two area damage dealers, one healer
Faction mix
Flexible; prioritise available AoE heroes
Formation
Damage dealers back row, healer back or middle
Core strategy
Clear waves quickly with area damage
Strengths
Fast campaign clears, efficient farming
Weaknesses
Fragile against sustained damage
Equipment notes
Upgrade damage dealers first; healer can wait

Faction Teams

Wei Faction Team

Wei teams often focus on control and sustained damage. A typical Wei build uses a durable front line and heroes that disrupt enemy formations. Wei heroes may have skills that reduce enemy rage or apply debuffs. A full Wei team can gain faction bonuses that enhance these effects. Consider adding a healer from another faction if survivability is an issue.

Shu Faction Team

Shu teams are often built around healing and resilience. A Shu build can outlast opponents by sustaining through damage and slowly wearing them down. Shu heroes may have healing or shielding skills. Faction bonuses can increase healing effectiveness. Pair with a strong damage dealer to close out battles.

Wu Faction Team

Wu teams often emphasise speed and burst damage. A Wu build aims to eliminate key threats quickly before the enemy can respond. Wu heroes may have high attack stats or skills that trigger extra attacks. Faction bonuses can increase critical chance or attack speed. A front-line tank is still needed to protect the damage dealers.

Balanced Teams

All-Purpose Balanced Build

Versatile

A balanced team includes at least one tank, one damage dealer, and one support hero, with a formation that protects the damage dealer while allowing the tank to absorb hits.

Heroes
One tank, one damage dealer, one support, one flex
Faction mix
Two factions to cover weaknesses
Formation
Tank front, damage and support back, flex middle
Core strategy
Adapt to opponent and game mode
Strengths
Reliable across content, flexible
Weaknesses
Does not excel in any single area
Equipment notes
Spread upgrades evenly to avoid over-specialisation

Damage Teams

Burst Damage Build

Aggressive

A burst damage build stacks multiple damage dealers and uses formation to keep them safe long enough to unleash their skills. It aims to win battles in the first few rounds.

Heroes
Three damage dealers, one control hero
Faction mix
Flexible; prioritise high attack heroes
Formation
Damage dealers back row, control middle
Core strategy
Win in the first few rounds with burst
Strengths
Extremely high damage, fast wins
Weaknesses
Fragile; may fail against tanky teams
Equipment notes
Prioritise attack and critical stats

Note that burst builds are fragile and may fail against tanky teams.

Defensive Teams

Turtle Defensive Build

Resilient

A defensive build uses multiple tanks and healers to outlast opponents. It sacrifices damage for survivability, aiming to win through attrition.

Heroes
Two tanks, two healers
Faction mix
Prefer factions with healing or defence bonuses
Formation
Two tanks front row, healers back row
Core strategy
Outlast opponents through attrition
Strengths
Very durable, good for long battles
Weaknesses
Low damage; may struggle against high burst
Equipment notes
Focus on defence and HP

Warn that defensive builds may struggle against high burst damage.

Progression Teams

Fast Clear Progression Build

Efficient

This build focuses on clearing stages quickly by using heroes with area damage and fast skill animations. It is ideal for farming resources and advancing through campaign chapters.

Heroes
Three area damage dealers, one speed buffer
Faction mix
Flexible; prioritise AoE and speed
Formation
Damage dealers back row, buffer middle
Core strategy
Clear waves before enemies act
Strengths
Fast farming, efficient campaign progression
Weaknesses
May not perform well in PvP
Equipment notes
Enhance attack and speed

Note that this build may not perform well in PvP.

Experimental Builds

Rage Denial Build

Experimental

This experimental build focuses on preventing enemies from using their rage skills by stacking control effects and rage reduction. It is untested in high-level play and may be situational.

Heroes
Three control heroes, one damage dealer
Faction mix
Flexible; prioritise rage reduction skills
Formation
Control heroes protected in back row
Core strategy
Deny enemy rage skills
Strengths
Can shut down skill-dependent teams
Weaknesses
Situational; untested in high-level play
Equipment notes
Accuracy or effect hit rate may help

Glass Cannon Build

Experimental

This experimental build uses four damage dealers and no tank, relying on overwhelming turn-one damage to win before the enemy can act. It is extremely fragile and not recommended for general use.

Heroes
Four damage dealers
Faction mix
Flexible; all high attack and speed
Formation
All heroes in back row
Core strategy
Win before the enemy acts
Strengths
Overwhelming turn-one damage
Weaknesses
Extremely fragile; loses if enemy survives
Equipment notes
Maximise attack and speed

Build Testing and Refinement

Testing Your Build

Test builds in a variety of content, such as campaign stages, PvP, and events. Pay attention to how often your team wins, how quickly, and which heroes underperform.

  • Track win rates in different game modes.
  • Identify which heroes die first or deal the least damage.
  • Adjust formation and equipment based on observations.

Refining Your Build

Small changes can have a big impact. Swap one hero at a time, adjust formation positions, and upgrade equipment strategically to address weaknesses.

  • If your team lacks damage, consider replacing a support hero with a damage dealer.
  • If your team dies too quickly, add a tank or healer.
  • Use the build evaluation framework from earlier to guide changes.
